My work reflects a passion for collecting and utilising materials that might have otherwise been discarded. Wrappers from luxury soaps, bits of images from newspapers and magazine supplements, gift wrappings, and fabric samples. The intention has been to see the beauty in ephemera either singularly or juxtaposed against other assorted pieces, in order to make something unique and beautiful. Through this process, another method of 'painting' a shape or object can be applied. In actuality the form that the material then describes is almost negligible in its importance and what becomes more significant is the ability to draw the viewer in to examine segments of the finished composition. Subsequently, the intention is for the viewer to be encouraged to actively make choices about which elements of the composition they find visually satisfying. The outcome, for me personally, is that the work will constantly change and develop according to the materials available and that ultimately suits my overall creative process.
